Look for the basic material
Block paving, concrete, natural stone, timber and composite are different starting points for a cleaning discussion. If you are not sure, choose the closest service and explain that in the optional note. You do not need to diagnose the surface.
Mention existing finishes
Tell the cleaner about any sealer, paint, oil or stain you know is present. Keep product or care information to hand where available. A finish can affect what method is proposed and what outcome is reasonable.
Point out visible wear
Loose joints, cracked slabs and worn boards should be discussed before work is agreed. Cleaning does not fix structural problems. Avoid testing a machine on a questionable surface simply to find out what happens.
Ask about the limits
Weathering and some older stains may remain. Ask for the proposed scope and exclusions in writing, including whether re-sanding, sealing or repairs are separate. The right next step may be a closer assessment rather than a wash.
